11182008_104605_0.pngNEW Instant Alert Calling System!
Keeping family members informed is a high priority for our District so we have added Honeywell Instant Alert to our communication systems.  When we have to cancel school due to poor weather conditions or dismiss early, we want to share this information as quickly as possible with parents and staff.  Honeywell Instant Alert is a WEB based program that automatically sends messages to home telephones, cell phones, work phones, and email addresses so families are reached quickly and efficiently. We expect to use the system for weather related issues, but it can also be used to inform families when school events are canceled, in an emergency, or for any event that needs to be communicated quickly to all our families and staff.

If school is canceled in the morning, the system will send a message to your cell phone, email and home phone. If school is being dismissed early, you would receive a message to your work phone, cell phone, email, and home phone. Please be aware that the system does NOT call extensions, so if your work number requires an extension to reach you, you may want to let us know that you will opt out of using that number. If you have more than one student in the district, you will only receive one call to each listed number. We will still alert radio and television stations of our weather cancellations as usual.

A letter is coming home this week by mail or with your child to inform you of the new program. It does not require action unless the contact numbers listed in the letter need to be updated.

We plan to test the system on Sunday, November 23rd around 7pm in preparation for the winter weather. If you DO NOT receive this call on your home phone and your cell phone or if there is any information you want to change, please send an email to Jan Kolenda at jan@maranacook.org (be sure to mention what school your child attends) or call the school secretary.

Sincerely,
Rich Abramson, Superintendent of Schools

MARANACOOK LATE BUS - MIDDLE SCHOOL & HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
On Thursday, November 6, the CSD Finance Committee approved a recommendation from the district Administrative Team to cancel the Friday late bus run for the remainder of this year.  This recommendation and decision was made in response to the challenging financial situation we are faced with this year. The district is facing higher oil prices than what was anticipated when the budget was passed last spring. We have been told by the Department of Education to expect a reduction in state subsidy based on the $55 million share of the $150 million shortfall in the state budget for this fiscal year.

At this time, all co-curricular and athletic programs will continue as scheduled.  The late bus will continue to run on Monday through Thursday.  This change will be in effect on Friday, November 21.

BLOOD DRIVE INFORMATION
The need is urgent!
The Maranacook National Honor Society is once again sponsoring a Blood Drive for our community.  We would like to give people in the district the first chance to sign up for appointments.  Please contact me at paula_weisberger@maranacook.org

We are dedicating the Blood Drive to a Maranacook student, Bryton Maxim, who underwent a successful heart transplant last summer.

The Blood Drive will be on Wednesday, November 19th from 12:30 to 6:00 pm in the Maranacook CHS Music Room.

Thank you for your support!   Remember that you need to bring a photo ID.
