A note from Steve DeAngelis -
Welcome to the Maranacook Alumni Association Website! I hope this Association will serve dual purposes. First is to provide an organized, easy way for Maranacook alumni to stay in touch with and reconnect with each other. This is partly selfish on my part because one of my favorite things about teaching has been keeping up with what my former students are up to. Once everyone gets used to using this site, it should make organizing a reunion much easier, for example. The other thing I know from talking to many Maranacook alumni, is that a lot of you have done well since you left Maranacook. That is no surprise to me! It is also an opportunity! I know that most of you had a wonderful high school experience at Maranacook and I suspect that you may be ready and willing to give something back.
Maranacook is an amazing place to educate young people (want to feel still older…..my oldest, Hannah, graduated from MCS this past June!), but the challenges we face get tougher each year with tighter state and local budgets. I think that an alumni fund could go a long way toward helping us to provide things such as field trips, co-curricular activities, facility improvements, and maybe even a performing arts center that are difficult or impossible to accomplish for us right now.
We are just getting started, so I am looking for ideas from you as well as money! Here is what would help:
Email me at alumni@maranacook.org and let me know if I can put your contact information on the correct class page of our new site. While you are writing send me an update on what you are doing that we can share as well. If you have current pictures to share, send them along as well. I would also appreciate it if you would send me contact information for any other MCS alums you are still in touch with.
Let me know any ideas you have about what an alumni association could do to help you stay in touch, as well as give back to your alma mater.
Get our fund started! The class of ’88 has gotten us off to a great start with some strong donations after their 20th reunion this past summer! You can send me a check (made out to Maranacook Education Foundation, with “Alumni Fund” in the memo line) or click on the link to the left to donate through PayPal. The Maranacook Education Foundation is a 501c organization so your contributions are tax deductible). Also, if you use our link to Amazon and make a purchase, we get a percentage of what you bought. It's like donating without having to spend any extra money!
Our Association needs a Board of Trustees. Please let me know if you would be willing to serve as a the representative for your class.
