20th Year Celebration of the
Maranacook Student Health Center
5:00 PM -7:00 PM

Health Center Open House will be from 5:00 – 6:00 PM and will include guided tours of the new & improved health center space and shared reflections from key community members who helped found the health center and have been part of the 20 Year Journey. Food and drink will be provided

From 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM we will feature a screening of the film 'Two Seconds'

Two Seconds is a short dramatic film created by Maine teens in partnership with Project AWARE and the Family Planning Association of Maine. The movie tells the story of teens struggling with relationship and sexual health issues. Two Seconds refers to how quickly a person's life can change when certain decisions are made - often at the spur of the moment and with little thought about the possible consequences. It also symbolizes that moment when a person decides to make a healthy change that improves his or her well-being.

Thirty Maine students were directly involved in the creation of the movie: directed by Hanna Langley; written by Faith Bishop, Hanna Langley, and Lindsay Parker; starring Tyler Lang, Jalina Brown, Abby Cummings, Maxim Birgfeld Davis, and Aleah Graham. Music by Lucas Holmes and Jake Nagy. Overall, more than 130 students were directly involved and the movie was filmed at Maranacook!

Drawn from the real-life experiences of teenagers, the film explores many aspects of teen sexual health and how teens (and the adults in their lives) navigate the consequences of decisions teens might make.

Hope you can attend!!!

The Health Center Student Advisory group's mission is to educate decision makers about student health center services
at the local, state and national level – representing the voice of youth around important health issues and needs.

The Maranacook Student Health Center is one of 26 school-based health centers (SBHC) from across the state of Maine – it is recognized as a model SBHC and is entering it's 20th year of operation – the longest running SBHC in Maine.

The school-based Maranacook Student Health Center serves all students in grades 6-12. Services are designed to meet the needs of the students during school hours. The mission of the Health Center is to provide support for the optimal physical and mental health of MCS students by providing access to a comprehensive array of treatment services, health information and referral services. Our aim is to keep students healthy; reduce time lost from school; teach healthy lifestyle practices, and detect and treat problems and illnesses before they become serious. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own health care.

Below are links that will take you to a number of informative web sites that address various health topics. The health center student advisory committee and the adult community advisory committee reviewed and recommneded these web sites for inclusion. Also included is a link to a number of free/low cost activities around central Maine that provide the opportunity to get outside & enjoy the fresh air while getting some exercise.
